Pigment Production of Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Abstract
Several major properties, among biochemical properties of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, being available for the identification of this organism were studied with clinical isolates.
The results obtained were as follows.
1. On colonial types and percentages of its frequency, type ¥°(typical type) was 92.3%, type ¥± (coliform-like type) and type ¥´ (mucoid type) were 3.61£¥ each and type ¥µ was not found.
2. Type ¥± colony forming strains were similar to type ¥° on pigment producing properties. Serotype E and pyocin type ¥°were the most frequent types of clinical isolates. Type ¥´ colony forming strains were weak in biological activities and had a number of strains with no response as compared with type ¥±.
3. Pyocyanin and fluorescein producing strains were the most frequement type of pigment production as 54.62£¥. Pyocyanin and pyorubin producing strains were the next frequent type as 20.0£¥ and pyocyanin only producing strains were 15.66£¥. In fluorescein production on Pseudomonas Agar F and blood agar plate, 42.17£¥ was positive and 36.14£¥ was negative each.
4. On the relationship between pigment production and serotype, serotype A showed that both pyocyanin and fluorescein producing strains were 75£¥ of all as the most frequent type and pyocyanin or fluorescein only producing strain was not found. There was not serotypic specificity of pigment production in each other types.
5. On the hemolysin production against bovine blood, 51.88£¥ was negative, 21.3£¥ was positive and 20.88£¥ was wealky positive of all strains.
